Social is a beast in and of itself. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat–the list goes on and on, and each network has it’s niche and use. Everyone says to have a successful online presence, you need to have social presence. But do you really need to have all these accounts?
Filling your life with characters through awesome comics
I’m Melissa J Massey (or MJ for short), a artist and author who probably cares a little too much about European singing competitions, cries about Formula 1 racing, and makes comics and art. You probably came here for the comics part. I’ve spent most of my life being enraptured by good stories. Books, cartoons, comics, manga, video games–wherever there’s a good story, I want to be.
So it’s not surprise that with this drive to read good stories paired with a hyper-active imagination, I create stories too. All kinds of stories. Mostly in comic form. My art is a blend of Art Nouveau and baroque architecture influences, with some anime and Byzantine empire style thrown in for good measure. My storytelling techniques are a mash up of Eastern and Western influences from years of reading graphic novels, indies, and manga. And to top it all off, I still work about 95% traditionally, coloring by hand with markers. Because I am just that crazy.
The most important part of my work is making characters. Over the years I’ve made all kinds of characters to help express different facets of my personality. Characters to help me deal with hard times, characters to take down my bullies, characters of who I wanted to be and could never be.
Or maybe I’m just a sentient pair of sunglasses possessing a human female. You don’t know.
